Get Your FREE Pedometer Today
As part of Steps to a Healthier Rockland, the Rockland County Department of Health supports an ongoing community-wide walking challenge, RC Walks Pedometer Program, to get Rockland residents, employees and students to move more. RC Walks encourages everyone to walk to help prevent diseases like obesity and diabetes. Walking is free exercise requiring only a good pair of walking shoes or sneakers and a commitment to good health.
The RC Walks Pedometer Program is an 8-week, self-monitored walking program. To take the challenge, simply commit to walk for 30 minutes or 4,224 steps calculated by using a pedometer at least 5 days a week. You will benefit by either walking for smaller time increments such as 10 minutes, three times a day or 30 minutes once a day.
We encourage participants to walk not only on treadmills and through their neighborhoods, but also at the local malls and state, county and town parks. For your convenience the Nanuet Mall and Palisades Centers encourage walkers to utilize the mall facility for walking.
Get involved! You’ll feel better, look better and live better and you’ll receive a free pedometer just for signing-up! Several exciting prizes have been awarded to participants who complete the challenge and send back their completed 8-week walking log.
It’s up to each one of us to make small lifestyle changes to improve and maintain good health, and the RC Walks Pedometer Program will help you do just that!
