About Us:
The Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition (School Coalition) is a collaborative of Rockland schools, organizations and businesses with a shared vision to have the healthiest students, staff and school communities in the nation.  To achieve this, the School Coalition supports the Coordinated School Health model by being the link for schools to the community at large with all of its resources. The School Coalition is closely affiliated with the Steps to a Healthier Rockland initiative.

Collaboration between schools, organizations and local businesses enhances communication, cooperation, sharing of resources and problem solving leading to improved vitality for schools and residents.  The School Coalition meets 4 times per year and has three workgroups.  The workgroups develop initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles, school-health and local community resources.

  • Protective Factors Workgroup - promotes the protective effect and importance of the family meal through the Eat Together! campaign
  • Professional Development Workgroup – produces bi-annual professional development events for school staff and parents that promote healthy school environments
  • School Resource Guide Workgroup – maintains a publicly accessible list of community resources for schools, community members and organizations

To become a member, schools, organizations, businesses and individuals sign a Statement of Commitment to the vision and mission of the School Coalition. As of  August 2010, there are 38 members including all Rockland public schools.
