Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition

The Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition (School Coalition) is a collaborative of Rockland schools, organizations and businesses with a shared vision to have the healthiest students, staff and school communities in the nation.  To achieve this, our mission is to educate and facilitate collaboration between schools, local agencies and businesses to support, optimize and sustain the health and productivity of our students, school staff and community. The School Coalition is closely affiliated with the Steps to a Healthier Rockland initiative to improve access to physical activity and better nutrition though it is not limited to this.

School Coalition activities enhance implementation of coordinated school health, wellness policies and practices, professional development, educational programming, communication and sharing of resources. The School Coalition meets four times per year and has three workgroups:

·    Protective Factors - promotes the family meal and its protective effect for youth through the Eat Together! campaign.
·    Professional Development– produces bi-annual professional development events for educators and parents to promote the connection between health and learning.
·    Farm to School – develops capacity in Rockland schools to purchase, grow, learn about and experience local, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables.

The School Coalition produced the School Resource Guide which is designed for school personnel and parents to quickly access local resources on topics related to student and family healtlh as well as school programming.
