Research indicates that eating together as a family on a regular basis improves health, communication and creates lasting memories.

Evidenced-based research confirms that the family meal is an important protective factor in promoting healthy behaviors among our youth. According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), when teens were asked when they would  talk to their parents about something important nearly half of teens and parents agreed that during or after dinner is the best time.

A subcommittee of the Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition, the Protective Factors Workgroup, developed the Eat Together! campaign. With the participation of community organizations and schools, public presentations and discussions are held throughout the year to promote the benefits of eating together as a family.

The School Coaltion has developed an “Eat Together!…It Makes A Difference” flyer and brochure to support and encourage the protective factor of the family meal.
